Carmine Caruso Competition Finalists Announced.
Five Finalists Announced for the Carmine Caruso International Trumpet Competition on September 23
MOSCOW, Idaho — July 17, 2017 — The University of Idaho’s Lionel Hampton School of Music will host the Carmine Caruso International Trumpet Competition on Saturday, September 23, 2017. The competition is sponsored by the International Trumpet Guild in cooperation with the Herb Alpert Foundation.
Chosen from the best young talent in jazz trumpet from around the world, the five finalists are Bruno Calvo (Amsterdam, Netherlands), Justin Copeland (Urbana, IL), Tony Glausi (Eugene, OR), David Neves (Long Island City, NY), and Josh Shpak (Boston, MA) with first and second alternates Davy Lazar (Warren, MI) and Anthony Stanco (Clinton Township, MI). On Saturday, Patrick Harbison, a former student of Carmine Caruso, will begin the day with a morning clinic on the Caruso Teaching Method. Each finalist will then perform throughout the day. The evening concert will feature the distinguished artist adjudicators—Dominick Farinacci, Patrick Harbison, and Marcus Printup—accompanied by the competition big band, the finalists, and the announcement of the winners. All events are open to the public and will be live-streamed free of charge. Performances will be held in Haddock Hall at the Lionel Hampton School of Music in Moscow, ID. Carmine Caruso was one of the world’s finest brass teachers. It is to this man and his work that the Carmine Caruso International Jazz Trumpet Solo Competition is dedicated.
