Vadim Alekseevich Novikov Honored on 85th Birthday
On March 29, 2026, the Small Hall of the Moscow Conservatory hosted a concert dedicated to the 85th birthday of Honored Artist of the Russian Federation, Professor Vadim Alekseevich Novikov, one of Russia's leading trumpet teachers.
Novikov played with the Bolshoi Theatre from 1965 to 1985 alongside Timofei Dokshizer. His pedagogical career began in 1968, when he joined the faculty of the Academic Music College of the Moscow Conservatory and began teaching at the Conservatory in 1979. He is also the founder of the Regional Guild of Russian Trumpeters.
Novikov's students are soloists with leading orchestras in Russia and around the world, and outstanding teachers at music colleges and universities. Among them are distinguished performers and teachers who continue their mentor’s legacy: Boris Shlepakov (Israel), Dmitry Lokalenkov (South Korea), Iskander Akhmadullin (United States of America), Viktor Silverstone (Sweden), Alexey Korniliev, Georgy Pleskach, Mikhail Gaiduk, Zhasulan Abdykalykov, Stepan Bachevich, and many others.
The celebratory concert featured soloists Stepan Bachevich, Georgy Pleskach, Timur Musin, and Alan Kenzhegarin, accompanied by the Chamber Orchestra of the Ministry of Defense of Russia. Works by Bach, Torelli, Hummel, and Vivaldi were performed. The second part of the program featured the Moscow Conservatory's brass ensemble under the direction of Yaroslav Belyakov (also a student of Novikov). Alexey Korniliev, Mikhail Gaiduk, and the current conservatory students of Novikov's class shone on stage. That evening, the Small Hall was completely full and the audience warmly celebrated Novikov.
