Job Posting: Publications Editor for the International Trumpet Guild
The International Trumpet Guild (ITG) announces a search for our next Publication Editor.
Primary duties include editing the quarterly ITG Journal, managing a team of volunteer column editors, liaising with the editorial committee for peer-reviewed articles, and supervising the work of the ITG Layout designer. Secondary duties include proofreading public-facing ITG publications such as competition rules and promotional materials. The Publications Editor will be expected to attend our annual summer conference (travel expenses provided by the Guild) and assemble and supervise a team of volunteer conference reporters, who will provide conference event reviews for coverage on the ITG Website and in the ITG Journal.
The ideal candidate will have excellent writing skills, strong administrative acumen, and a record of successful publications. The Publications Editor should be able to build and maintain positive working relationships with Guild leadership and membership.
Although the layout of the ITG Journal is handled by a separate team member—the ITG Layout and Production Manager—it is desirable for the Publication Editor to be familiar with the software currently employed in the layout process, namely Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, and Finale/Dorico.
The Publication Editor’s salaried, part-time position pays $27,000 per year as an independent contractor, plus travel expenses to conferences where conference reporting is required. This position is “remote” in nature, other than the aforementioned conference attendance. The Publication Editor is also an ex officio member of the ITG Board of Directors, which typically meets twice per year via Zoom, and once per year, in person, at the annual conference.
About the Guild: ITG is a global nonprofit organization with thousands of members across more than 60 countries. It serves performers, educators, students, and enthusiasts through scholarly publications, conferences, educational outreach, and performance opportunities.
To apply, please submit a letter of application, a CV, contact information for three references, and an example of the candidate’s scholarly/formal writing to Jason Dovel, [email protected] with the subject line Publications Editor Position.
Review of applications will begin December 1, 2025, with an anticipated start date no later than March 1, 2026.
