Affiliate Chapter Event: Greater Idaho Trumpet Guild
The Boise State University Trumpet Studio and the Greater Idaho Trumpet Guild (an affiliate chapter of the International Trumpet Guild) hosted their inaugural festival at Boise State University on January 22, 2022.
The festival was attended by 52 people including studio members from Boise State, Idaho State, and BYU-Idaho. Community members of all ages were also in attendance to enjoy a variety of clinics, exhibits, and performances. Wiff Rudd, Professor of Trumpet at Baylor University, was a featured clinician leading a collaborative warmup session and a performance masterclass. Tony Plog joined virtually to give a well received talk on being a lifelong student.

Eddie Ludema, Assistant Professor of Trumpet at Idaho State University, presented a session on Leveraging Tech to Boost Your Practice Session. He shared numerous tips to engage our curiosity through novel use of technology. His background as a programmer was on full display with the use of his personally designed app, Doctor Drone. Students were able to participate in his workshop to demonstrate various uses of the app and other tools to maximize results in the practice room while engaging our curiosity.
Andrew Allphin, Assistant Professor of Trumpet at Brigham Young University-Idaho, inspired everyone with a clinic about career opportunities in the military and how to prepare for auditions. His expertise from many years in the “Pershing’s Own” provided for a motivating class filled with unique insight. Attendees then moved to the recital hall for a large ensemble reading session led by Dr. Zach Buie. A culminating evening concert was held featuring Professor Wiff Rudd, Dr. Derek Ganong, Dr. Eddie Ludema, and Dr. Zach Buie. A combined university ensemble directed by Dr. Buie capped off the concert performing works by Burkhart, Dunker, Ewazen, Olcott, and Grainger. This concert was dedicated to the memory of Raymond Burkhart.
