NPP Ensemble Reading Session

2026 Rochester, New York —

This Non-Pro Reading Session, led by Julia Bell, Assistant Professor of Trumpet at Texas Tech University, brought nearly forty trumpet players together from across the country. The ensemble performed a diverse range of repertoire, from Giovanni Gabrieli’s Canzon Septimi Toni No. 2 to Jen Oliverio’s newly published Dandelion Reveille, showcasing both historical and modern works. Some notable moments included the beautiful chorale textures of Eric Morales’s Within Sacred Walls and the energetic finale of Leroy Anderson’s Bugler’s Holiday. Throughout the session, Bell emphasized dynamic contrast, precise articulation, and overall ensemble awareness. Bell’s leadership, combined with the experience of performing with many peers, left a lasting impression on each participant. (Drew Reynolds)

2025 Salt Lake City, Utah —

Seretta Hart directed the Non-Pro Player Reading Session.

Making a return following its successful introduction at last year’s ITG Conference, this non-pro reading session led by Seretta Hart featured over fifty trumpeters of all ages and abilities. Hart led the ensemble through John Moss’s arrangement of Three Renaissance Dances, Giovanni Paolo Cima’s Laudete Dominum, and Eric Ewazen’s Concert Fanfare. She provided additional tips on how to be successful in a large trumpet ensemble, stating that clarity of articulation and relaxation to help with sound are essential to playing successfully in an ensemble.  Seretta Hart’s expertise and the camaraderie and excitement of playing in such a large group left a lasting impression on each player. Non-Pro Reading Session with Julia Bell
The ITG Non-Pro Player Committee was excited to offer a new session this year, treating musicians with an opportunity to read trumpet ensemble music just for fun. Led by Dr. Julia Bell, attendees sight read music including Erik Morales’s “Within Sacred Walls,” Eric Ewazen’s “Prelude and Fugue,” Chidester’s arrangement of “Flintstones Chorale and Fugue,” Malcolm Arnold’s “A Hoffnung Fanfare,” and everyone’s favorite, Leroy Anderson’s “Bugler’s Holiday.” With a completely filled Conference room, this session is sure to be a “must attend” event at next year’s conference.
